Transport inventory and greenhouse gas emission reporting TrIGGER tool - Viet Nam 2014

The Transport Inventory and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting (TrIGGER) Tool estimates fuel consumption and tank-to-wheel (TTW) greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O) for the transport sector in a given country and year. The tool follows the IPCC 2006 guidelines for national GHG inventories and provides default emission factors for different transport modes.

The tool has been adapted for various countries. It supports transport policy development, climate impact assessments, and emissions accounting in rapidly motorizing regions.

Overview

The TrIGGER Tool calculates transport total fuel consumption and estimates the corresponding tank-to-wheel emissions for CO2, CH4 and N2O for a given country and year. GHG emissions are calculated for the following sectors: Road, railways, maritime and inland shipping. The results of the individual sectors are then used to analyse the country's modal split as well as its total GHG emissions related to domestic transport. The tool has been developed by GIZ and IFEU in the context of the project "Advancing Transport Climate Strategies in Rapidly Motorising Countries" (TraCS). It was initially tested for Vietnam and has been adapted for various countries. The project is financed through the International Climate Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The tool can be used for free, acknowledging GIZ, IFEU and BMUB. It is not allowed to use the tool for commercial purposes.
